Awards and Recognitions

-- to members of HACC's Alpha Nu Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, for earning $1,640 for campus projects this past spring as a nonprofit partner with Better World Books, a nationwide effort aimed at improving the quality of life for people through literacy. Dean Thaddeus Sampson, Chapter advisor, writes the plan is to place this money in the chapter's Membership Assistance Fund housed in the HACC Foundation. The effort continues across the five campuses. Better World Books collects used books and textbooks from about 1,000 campuses and 700 libraries nationwide. The books are sold off BWB's Web site with a percentage of each sale going to nonprofit partners promoting global literacy.
