Examples of Acceptable Service
The following are examples of acceptable organizations and their duties:
- Humane society - helping with animals, fundraising for humane society
- Libraries - reading to children, helping Librarian with checking out/in books, putting away books
- Associations for the Blind - driving clients to appointments, reading to them, helping them with their studies or activities of daily living (shopping, cleaning, etc...), recording books to tape
- Girl/Boy Scouts - Lead or assist leaders with troop activities
- PTA/PTO/PTSO - be on the board of one of these organizations, Help out at an approved event
- Music Programs - assisting with the performance
- Churches - help out with Vacation Bible School, services, church camps, office work
- YMCA/YWCA - assist as required
- Relay for Life: American Cancer Society - participate with fundraising or with the organization of this event or a similar event from ACS
- Rose Lehrman Arts Center - usher, coat check or another activity which is asked by us from the Arts Center
- Unpaid tutoring at HACC or at another school
- Keep America Beautiful Service - working with a local organization from Keep America Beautiful or Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful
- Habitat for Humanity - time spent building a house, helping to fundraise
- Hospitals - volunteer time at a hospital (ie: delivering flowers, reading material, reading to patients, pushing their wheelchair to the lobby for patients going home, etc...)
- Nursing homes - volunteer time at a nursing home (ie: reading to residents, etc...)
- Ambulance associations - volunteering as an EMT
- Youth sports - assisting coaches with the sports, fundraising
- Fire departments - fundraising, working as a volunteer firefighter
- Red Cross - helping to take information from the donors, handing out juice/donuts afterwards
- Salvation Army - fundraising, volunteer work at stores, in disaster areas, etc...
